In order to improve the energy efficiency of urban heating systems, calculates and compares the energy efficiency indexes of several heating modes to explore the best heating mode under different circumstances. The results show that, based on the total energy utilization coefficient of different heating modes, the combined power cycle cogeneration unit is the most efficient, followed by the distributed gas cogeneration unit. In the area where the geological resources are better and the environmental temperature is not too low in winter, the energy efficiency of the large compressed heat pump is better than that of the small coal-fired cogeneration unit. The development of coal-fired cogeneration units should ensure to match heat supply and local heating load, improve the power generation efficiency or the inlet steam parameters of turbines as much as possible, and construct the absorption heat pump. For the place with small boiler heating system only, the absorption heat pump should be adopted, in order to improve the energy utilization coefficient of the system.
